Default Crash bungs.... on the cheap :)

Not of much use to most I suppose, but if anyone is looking for threw axle crash bungs (I've fitted on my ccm),here's a cheap trick.

Skateboard wheels x 4 (£4.19 off ebay)
8mm studding (£1.59 from B&Q)
10mm clear tubing (£1.89 a metre from B&Q)
nylon washers X4 (had them in the shed)
M8 nyloc nuts X4 (likewise also in the shed)

the 10mm clear tubing sheaths the studding to make it a tight push fit for the axle, so it's not floating.

rather than the £29.99 per set this works out at under £10.

Oh and if you want to make it sound better for some reason, call them A.D.R.D's (Abrasion Damage Reduction Device's...... )

Cheers Mark.

Can't see much to fault them at that price.

I do like ingenious ideas

Cool
What is studding? I guess it's the piece of metal that goes through the spindle, but what's it supposed to be for so I can find it in B&Q?

Threaded rod, find it in the metal section at B&Q or better still at your local ironmongers, if you have one

skate wheels slightly more likely to dig in than designed for the purpose bungs, can't argue with the price though

i have bungs designed by D3 Racing on my KTM, 10mm rod (8mm will bend more often than you think) with their own bungs, have slid on them and they're rock solid, better than the R&Gs on the DRZ and generally considered best by the SM community, iirc they cost about £20 for both front and rear, don't know if they design them for other brands?

You might be able to find more old fashioned skateboard wheels like the late 70s, early 80s ones (I have a vague recollection that they were made of nylon). Much less grippy than modern skateboard wheels, some of which are almost rubber-like and quite soft in comparison.

To be honest these are silicone wheels and if anything softer than normal crash bungs, the 8mm would indeed bend fairly easy if it was floating within the axle, but held tight as it is it hasn't got anywhere to go, besides if it bends doing it's job, then I'll replace it, simple as that.

It's all to do with degree of protection I suppose, for the money and what I require it fits the bill nicely.

Cheers Mark.
