Default Uprated Halogen Bulbs

Before I take the full HID plunge, has anyone heard of any horror stories using uprated halogen bulbs likes Phillips Osrams etc?

I am sure I have read they can heat up the SV light units until the point that they melt the lens?

Horror stories tend to be from higher Wattage bulbs

All the normal 55/60W ones will be fine

Personally I've had Nightbreakers and Phillips Extreme ones, the Nightbreakers were a little brighter, but I had serious longevity issues, eventually ended up with Halfords ones, whatever the top end ones are - they were the same price as the Nightbreakers when on BOGOF but have lasted much longer

Dan try your local parts guy (not a dealer) as I got some hellish 55/60w for £7 a pair
TBH i think they are better than the the phillips for brightness

All standard wattage bulbs will be fine. Do not buy unbranded bulbs as many are not effectively UV shielded - this is the most common cause of damage to plastic headlight lenses.
Do a search and there's a number of threads about better design bulbs, Osram Nightbreakers or Philips Extreme something - even at the standard wattage all are a notable improvement over standard bulbs.

osram nightracers are good... nearly all modern headlights are too freaking bright anyway, as for those Audis with their LED running lights.. they don't half blind you when they're oncoming traffic... so in view of that i'm gonna festoon me essvee with freaking LEDs... HTH

I've got a set of Osram nightbreakers in- got them from a Triumph site I think and cost less than a pair of the Halfords site (over a year ago now).

They're way better than the standard lamps. Worth a go I reckon.
