Progressive spring query.

been offered an unused set of prog springs for curvy naked on the cheap.

Had progs on various bikes and to be honest have had mixed results. Generally speaking, imo, they work best old heavy, older machines with limited suspension adjustment. Stuff like Zephs, XJ900 etc. If were going to sort the SV springs I'd go for fixed raters (and a re-valve) but like I said, some bikes do respond well to progs and these are packaged Hagons under half price. Had less problems with Hagon variety than Hyperpro in the past for whatever reason.

I did a search but found that quite often there were multiple front end issues being talked about, has anyone who makes good progress tried em?

How cheap?

I think linear works better, not much to revalve in there though. But hagons are better than stock.

40 quid with Hagon oil thrown in, items boxed & unopened.

Agree re linear - tend to prefer a fixed spring rate suited to my weight (12 stone), alternatively reckon I could get away with the OE springs and an adjusted air gap to suit (for now). But progs can work well on some bikes, which is why I was wondering if anyone has direct experience of hagons in situ on the SV.

Air gap is attacking the problem all wrong and basically giving you worst of all worlds of progressive spring... nothing, nothing, nothing BANG.

For £40 they're worth a go you'll get more than that for them on here.

Simply a question of whether on the whole people have found the Hagon progs to be an improvement on standard. Or not.

Yes they are definite improvement. But further gains to be had with linears, and emulators, or cartridges.

Point taken about emulators etc, not on the agenda for the SV sadly.

BTW I wasn't suggesting doing a gap mod on the Hagon settings since I haven't even picked em up.

Gap and/or oil adjustment can be useful in some circs, I know for a fact that Hyperpro standard settings are far from cast in stone

Gap and oil adjustment is good, but there isn't much to be done with the stock springs to improve matter sadly.
