Default Horn not working properly.

I've been experiencing problems with my bikes horn ever since I bought it. It does not work consistently, sometimes it will sound and couple minutes later it does not work.

I thought my rad was affecting it, but my horn has worked at cold temp and high temp.

My horn does this periodically, the rad seems to cook it, if it's not the button I tend to fill my horn with WD40 and it starts working again, I really must get round to replacing it and relocating it.

My horn only works when the bike is actually moving, if it's stationary with or without the engine running it doesn''t work. Any ideas?
I'll need it soon enough for MOT..

Does it work with the throttle open whilst stationary? What voltage have to got on the battery? Just wondering if you have enough power or a loose connection.

I will check tomorrow and report back!
I don't think its a loose connection since it always work when I'm mobile.

Mine always got too hot and stopped working, so I relocated it.
However if yours is only working when riding I'd say you might need to look in the switch housing.
Or as the horn itself vibrates when the engine is running try giving it a tap to see if it's jammed up.
I'm guessing that as mine got hot something expanded and stuck. Because it works fine now.
Maybe, just maybe a couple of taps will free it up, or maybe it's just fooked.

Horn may well not work without the engine running as the voltage may not be enough to get it going. Assuming it works with the engine running I'd be surprised if an MOT would fail you for that as you rarely need to toot someone when the bike's turned off.

Mine used to pack up when it got hot and was pretty feeble anyway so I've taken the horn feed to drive a relay and then wired in a pair of uber-loud horns which always make the MOT man leap out of his skin.

If you fit them, point them backwards so they don't fill with water. They fit quite nicely on the radiator mount points.

Fit a Stebel Nautilus and be done with it. Best £35 you'll ever spend on your bike
