After my accident it looks like I am going to be unable to ride for 6-12 weeks at least.
Currently my bike is undercover on my drive, but as this is now a longer-term issue I need to do something about it, so its condition doesn't deteriorate. My idea was to clean it and give a good coat of wax/autosol and ask my Dad if I can put it in his garage undercover until I can use again. Is there anything else I should do to keep it in as good condition as possible? |

give it a good spraying with grease or old oil, spin the tyres round to a different contact patch every fortnight or so.
An optimate will save you a few quid too, if not then remove the battery and charge it for a few hours every fortnight or so.

tbh, given that it may be around 3 months before you ride again i would
a/fill tank up to full, then add a fuel stabilizer(stop inside of tank rusting&petrol turning 2 mush b/maybe an oil change if has,nt been done 4 a while(cheap oil as it wont be used) c/a good wash,n,wax then spray acf50 everywhere(except brake,n,discs)stop corrosion d/as yorkie said keep battery on charge e/"" "" "" "" "" "" roll bike a few feet every 2 weeks(stop tyre flat spots) f/stuff a rag in end of zorst(stop moisture build up) g/keep well covered up h/when ready 2 go back on road change oil again 4 good stuff&also change oil filter this is what i do,some people may think some parts are a bit extreme but it works 4 me &at the end of the day if it ain,t broke why fix it? hope this helps anyways ![]() |

well having several bikes in storeage and about to take two off the road for minimum 6 months here's what I do.
Abba/nws/superpro stand and block under front of engine keeps both wheels off the ground. deflate tyres by 10 psi. run the engine up to temp and spray wd40 (you'll get a nice big cloud of the stuff, it'll coat all the engine bit, underside of the tank). lube all the cables and release them (throttle,clutch.choke). brime the tank (I don't use a stabilizer and never had a problem). clean and use acrytic polish on all panels. ease back the pads and release the calipers from there mounts (I bungy them back). ACF THE DISCS!!!! ( THEY WILL GO RUSTY). ACF 50 back and front end (as in not the engine, you WD40'D that). Fill the crank with as much oil as you can (Halfords £4.99 cheap crap will do) Remove plugs and a teaspoon of oil down each bore, replace plugs. heavy grease change. remove battery ( keep it indoors, charge it every couple of weeks). put sign over ignition "do not start". a complete oil change (re-fill to the correct level), re-fit battery, clean disks and re-fit calipers, re-connect cables, adjust tyre pressures, quick wipe down and you'll be good to go. Stored bikes like this for upto 6 years before now and that was outside under a cover. Cheers Mark.
