On my bike the cat is welded to the headers, however a few people have cut it off and added a slip-on can with mid-pipe.
I'm looking at doing this as it sounds strangled all the time but the bike has nearly the full 2 year warranty left, would it void it....opinions please! ![]() |

Wouldnt it just be easier to try and source a full system wihtout a cat from ebay or the like ?

I would imagine that doing that would result in the warranty becoming void..you could always ring up and clarify it? Warranties are tricky things.

Don't systems with cats also have a lamda sensor?, removing the full system will then need the lamda fettling

Usually fitting any non manufacturer approved parts will invalidate your warranty regardless of which part it is.In my experince of many years of the motor trade.Would be better to source a set of headers from another bike then you're able to put back to original if anything goes awry.

You can fit K6/K7 headers and then fit a K6/K7 can, but by the time you've found one and brought the exhaust your looking at new system money. The cut and shut job is ok and would only void the warranty on the standard system, not the best way of doing things but if your on a budget then its an option. My full Yoshi system cost me £777 and I thought that was a good price, some exhausts (Racefit) cost upto £500.. I love the sound of mine now, like you say it sounds so restricted standard but get rid of the CAT and the beast is unleashed!!!

I got mine from JHS Racing fitted, they said prices have gone up abit now but still worth a shout. They import there's from Japan direct they said. I spent a few hours waiting for it all to be setup and done with PCIII, bmc air filter and custom map. Good service though.

Few things:
1. Only invalidates the warranty if the claim is to do with the part you fitted, e.g. if you put an exhaust on and it ran lean and caused some damage in the engine, you'd probably not have a successful claim. However if you put an exhaust on and then claimed for cracked glass on your clocks it wouldn't be affected. 2. Kwak you have a K7, the exhaust is different ![]() 3. Many aftermarket full systems will have a hole for the lambda sensor; mine does (full Yoshi similar to Rich's but the R-77 not R-55). 4. I got my system from the US, if the exchange rate gets better it may be worthwhile looking. Full US Yoshi systems can be had for ~$1000, so £500 at the GBP-USD exchange rate's peak. |
