Hey guys
So, i got a new chain and sprockets fitted yesterday, but the question is, what do people recommend; Scottoiler or Lube? I need to lube mine in the next couple of days so need recommendations pretty soon Now i know the common arguement is 'The scottoiler makes a mess of the back wheel' but people still use it despite this. Can anyone tell me where the cheapest place is to get one? If people recommend good old lube, can someone tell me the best stuff to use and perhaps the best [and cheapest] place to get it? come on guys, debate debate debate Cheers Chas |

If you do significant miles you'll find yourself using a fair bit of chain lube, but Wurth Dry Lube is very good stuff that leaves no mess
I reckon an automatic luber is on the cards for the Adventure at some point, simply to save me the hassle of taking a can of lube away when I'm on trips ![]()

Depends...
If you do alot of long journeys, a winter commute, or your planning on going touring or you just cant be doing with lubing your chain every few hundred miles get the Scottoiler. Its not fit and forget though so you'll still need to check the chain tension and general state of the sprockets etc manually at regular intervals. Scottoilers IMHO only fling if they arent setup properly, i.e the flow rate is to high, set up properly they dont make a mess. However I'd rather have a bit of fling on my wheel, than have a dry chain. IMHO the Scotoil lube is much easier to clean off than convential chain lube anyway. My GSXR has done 20K its still on the original chain and sprockets and I've never had to adjust the chain on it. As for lube, I've had good results with Wurth Dry Lube on the other halfs Ducati. But its not very good as a winter lube so if you're riding through winter you'll need something a little more heavy duty, before I got the scotloiler I just used to use whatever I could get, normally it was the Holts Lube that halfords sell, used to work OK. As for the oiler, you can order from scottoiler direct via their website or most dealers sell them and can get one for you. I wouldnt be without my Scotoiler, its one of the best bits of kit I've ever bought.

+1 on the scottoiler, I do about 250 miles a week mainly motorway all year round and the scottoiler is the best bolt on bit of kit I've bought.

Scottoiler users seem to consistently report much better chain life. I'll definitely fit one to my next bike

The great thing about the Scotty is that you don't need to remember to lube the chain before a 300 mile ride. No matter how fastidious you are about lubing your chain, it is not the same a continous lubrication from a chain oiler. I have always had them on my bikes, only had one problem in many thousands of miles and that was due to operator error (ie I messed up). My current VFR had the chain adjusted for the first time at 21K miles.

Scottoiler. They work so well its brilliant! You can tell the chain is running so much better with one on.
Just make sure you check its oiling the chain (sometimes you run out of oil or the nib moves or well you can imagine) but as long as its all good its great ![]() |

Yup me too. Sure that area's meant to be oily. Thats why i can never understand people with constantly clean white rear wheels.

awww cheers guys, fantastic replies, I think i should take it from all that that a Scotoliler is the best option then, since the wife passed her Driving Test my motor has been stolen on a daily basis by her and the bike is now my main commute, will be during the winter too.
Scotoiler shopping here i come.... Thanks all, much appreciated ![]() |
