Default Can I route hot and cold water pipes through my loft?

Quick one for the plumbers. We're getting a new boiler and soon refitting the bathroom. The house wer live in is an old cottage and some of the upstairs floors are screeded and/or have no void (open beams below) so there's nowhere to hide piping in the upstairs floors. Currently the pipes make their way across the stairwell in a rubbish bit of boxing-in. The only thing I can think of is to re-route them up into the loft (there are already pipes going up there for the header tanks etc.) and bring them back down in the bathroom wall (one wall is a stud wall). Provided they're insulated is there any reason not to do this?

I'm sure theres no reason why not, unless gravity or some weird explanation to say otherwise.

Me and my dad re-routed the entire water system to the opposite end of the house, when I took the old cylinder and header tank out of the back bedroom, to put in a combi boiler in the front.

No, crack on, just protect from freezing, bearing in mind how cold it's been lately.

As stated absolutely no prob in routing through the roof void. I would have been tempted to use the pvc type piping which are so easy to work with, have push fit connections and work very well. In addition you possibly lessen the risk of problems that severe weather might cause. Although even with pvc pipes you should definitely invest in some quality pipe insulation.

Yep I have pvc pushfit pipes routed through the loft, pish easy if ever you want to move a radiator or anything. Save yourself a bit of money (unless you can work with copper?)

I can do copper no problem but would still choose John guest push fit pipe any day, less prone to frost damage, less joins, easy to run, easy to pull apart and add stuff to etc etc.

Make sure you insulate it well cos they will freeze.

Nice one thanks guys. I've used a lot of copper and pushfits in the past with less trouble than compression. My soldering isn't up to much but I might twist the plumber's arm to do the whole lot anyway.

Shame the weather is about to change, the only reason to closet the patio doors lately has been when it's dark and the lights will bring the insects in!
