Default 28mpg, running rich pointy.

Fed up of this bike already.

I've put so much money into this bike (petrol)

It's running rich and back firing every now and again, and I've just calculated I'm getting 28mpg, most of it on the motorway.

Any advice!?

I have a very similar problem although I just about manage 32mpg! Have you got an aftermarket can/air filter etc?
I have checked my throttle position sensor (which was way out) and balanced throttle bodies but haven't found a noticeable difference as yet! Next on the list is to remove the k&n air filter an replace with an OEM one (along with plugs, oil and oil filter) if none of that works I'm considering a dyno run to see if I can work things out that way.

I have a scorpion stubby exhaust with no baffle!

What have you checked so far?
Air filter ok ,Temp sensor OK ?
Are both plugs running rich (Dark or even black fouling?)

Sensors, connections, coolant level.

Sid... Any 'specific' connectors/sensors to check?

If I'm honest guys, I'm a noob when it comes to this kinda stuff. If it was carbed I'd be reet, but with it being fuel injected and stuff it scares me...
So I haven't actually 'checked' anything. In all honesty I think it's the fuel pump relay cos I found it worm down so much you can see inside it on one corner and it was corroded like mad from water. Where can I get a new one?

Did you manage to fix it? I have the same problem on my '04 SV650S. The last 3 times I filled the tank the fuel light was on again before I hit 50 miles. It seemed to be getting worse recently. Then a few days ago the bike started for a split second, made a loud popping noise (which I guess was a backfire), died, and hasn't started since (aside from earlier when it started for a split second, where it did exactly the same thing as before.) Up until then the bike has been running mostly OK. Now it's not even functional.

The TBs were a yard out of balance, the air filter was filthy. See what his new consumption is like...
