Default Photograhy Advice/hints

Hey all!

I really enjoy taking scenic wide shots of landscapes using several photos and then "stitching" them together. (like shown below from last weekend) I normally use MS paint or PanoStitcher which i found a while ago.

Is there any photographers on here who can give me advice on how to get a better scenic wide shot?
Or any tips that would help make the shots easier to stitch together?

I would like to use paintshop but i dont have the cash and I dont think it takes into account the curvature of the lense? (maybe wrong there never really used it)

Cheers

Quack

If you are not already using one a tripod, it will ensure that the images are as sharp as possible. You can get small ones that will go under the seat on an SV, and the sit on a wall, strap to a fence post or even sit on the bike.

I'm no expert on the 'art of stitching' with the applications you mention.

The easiest way to get a panoramic photo is to use the widest angle lens setting and crop the top and bottom off. If taking many shots to add together I would suggest using a tripod and a spirit level so that as the camera is panned the thing stays level (might need to fiddle with the tripod to achieve this) Also set the exposure to manual of you can with the correct exposure for the middle point and take the group of shots in quite quick succession with the same exposure. That way you will not have any change in sky or land shade for the adjacent photos.

I assume your using a digi? We've got a canon that does it for you, it's only a little thing, but AFAIK the digital rebel has the same feature, saves haveing to stitch it yourself.

Just remebered the feature is stitch assist, the wife uses it pretty often and they always turn out good.

Nice panorama,

Firstly use a Tripod secondly set your camera to manual so you get the same exposure on all shots.

You might be able to download Canon's photostitch software from their website

Might be worth having a look on www.ephotozine.com probably the best photo site on the web.

Exactly what I tried to say but more concise Woth checking the level of the camera though or the horizon will look ill.
