You'll have to take the filter off to get all the oil out.
Trust the sight glass, the rest of us do. By that I mean we trust our own sight glass, not yours, we dunno where it's been... |

Try running the bike for a minute or two first, it'll make draining that much easier. and make sure you stand the bike upright (leaning it side to side will get the last of it out).
I've got a cheap plastic measuring jug I use for oil, that way I can make sure of what I put in. Cheers Mark.

And remember that when you take the drain plug out IT WILL GO EVERYWHERE
![]() I used a plastic drainage tray to catch what I thought would be a few drips until I could get the container underneath the hole - unfortunately the oil shot right past this and made a right mess all over the drive, so do it somewhere it doesn't matter, or put plenty of newspaper down |

Don't know if I'm missing the point, but what's wrong with the sight glass? As long as the bike is upright and you give the oil a chance to settle it's going to be accurate.
If you attempt to drain and measure, apart from damaging the seal on either the drain plug or oil filter, you risk contaminating the oil, and at the end of the day there will always be some lurking in the engine somewhere so it'll not be 100 % accurate anyway. Or perhaps I'm risking all sorts of problems using the device designed and installed by the manufacturers for this very reason and am just blissfully unaware of the impending doom
