Main advantage of the trail gator over any of the tag-alongs is that you can tow your kids to where you are going, let them cycle about then tow them home. Also if you are on a big family ride you can give them a tow up big hills but let them off to cycle back down. They can only do that on a tag-along if they are really really good at wheelies.
With a lot of messing about you can manage a trail gator and a carrier with panniers and then strap the body-boards to the tow-bar and have the ultimate family transport system for trips to French beaches where you could probably sell the trail-gator 10 times over to well impressed French folk. We've also taken the kids on proper tandems. They love that. Problem there though is getting them to sense when to pedal and when to not as the sync chain links both pedals together. Takes a bit of training. Main problem with Tandems is they are a bugger to transport and you will constantly snag yourself on the stoker bars when it's in the garage.

Looks like an expensive way of achieving the same thing. It'll save you having to fit the mount on the kids bike but at nearly 4* the price it's a bit over the top.
If you find yourself down south we'll be selling ours when i get that deep into tbe garage. Too heavy to sensibly post.

Yeah pretty much what mark said, we had one with Libby was good to get her to places where she could ride her self and then get her home again afterwards. Just need to make sure they're holding on me ready to go when you start otherwise they end up on their backside
