dmracing. If it was fitted by a dealer with new sprockets as you said, then I would go back to them and complain. No way should the chain be doing that. I'm a big fan of the OEM chain stuff having got over 30,000 out of one without a scottoiler.

Melody. Are you looking at the chain from the rear of the bike, at the part of the chain that runs on the sprocket ( the rollers), this is the important section that needs lubing, not the outside (the links) ? If the rollers are still oily then it sounds fine. Usually though in wet weather the chain needs lubing more.

Every time before I lube the chain I spray it with chain cleaner... could this cause my problem?

Are these scotoiler things worth the money? Surely they must cake the chain in crap as they squirt oil over a road dirty chain.

Not sure you need to use chain cleaner that regularly. I presume you are using 'O' ring friendly solvent and giving it a chance to evaporate before applying fresh lube.

Scottoilers are brilliant. Bit of a fiddle to set up, but ideal for somebody like you who covers a high mileage every day.

Thanks Pete. Don't quite understand you so I think I'll just give it another loobing tomorrow. S'pose I should get this chain cleaner stuff too.

Ok Melody,

These are the rollers. They should always look oily.

These are the links. They can look either oily/greasy or like this, clean.

It is a good idea to clean the chain on a regular basis, because the old lube attracts grit and can become a type of grinding paste accelerating the wear on the drive chain components. That's where a Scottoiler is so good, it uses thinner oil that is constantly 'washing' the chain. All IMO of course.

Hope that helps?

Thanks for that. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words in this case.
Looking at these pics, I reckon my chain NEEDS loobing pronto. Will get to it as soon as I can drag myself out of bed.
