I hate tools. Work in a tool hire & sales business 6 days a week & they get on my nerves

Reminds me of a faux pas I once said when telling my workmates how often I saw spanners & stuff lying in the gutter when riding my pushbike - "its amazing what tools you see riding a pushbike", oh how they laughed

Sounds like me at work - 'You can get a tool to do that?? Order one from RS right away!'

Bought a very expensive makita 18v drill recently - its variable speed, but the slowest is soooo slow, like about 2 rpm, but still with loads of torque - its just drill porn to watch.

My mate works on boats, he's mr snap-on. He reckons he has spent 20k on tools so far.

Uh..mmm...yeah, I guess I do as well. It's usually when ordering stuff mail order. Starts with trying to make the minimum order..and ends when I review the order. ("Hmm..I guess I really don't need another carbide lathe bit or end mill...")

Yeah, same here, my dads collection mainly. I have free access to sooooo much stuff.

But i'm moving house soon (or supposed to be, , whole other thread), so it will soon be time to gather my own stash of tools.

Can't see me buying a lathe anytime soon tho, so regular trips home required methinks!

See, the shop-aholic gene isn't gender specific...

... just 'genre specific'.

Shoes - tools - shoes - tools - sho...

... who am I trying to kid ...

... tools every time.
(Especially ones with power cords attached! )

but then you can't do the incredibly unsafe yet Grrrwaaaah thing of plugging three extension leads together just to work in your loft!

Other Grrrwaaaah things include:
Kneeling on bits of wood you are sawing through instead of clamping them.
Using sharp knives as screwdrivers.
Randomly 'finding' bits of wood that really need to be made smaller (usually just after having bought a power saw)...
... then kneeling on them (see above).
Also using random steps, benches, chairs or tables as a 'workbench'.

They all give a strange sense of satisfaction and often make you feel like your Dad or Grandad...
... as does finding a really old ratchet screwdriver, chisel or plane - that you then clean up and use constantly in spite of newer tools...
... cos it feels Grrrwaaaah.
