Default Safety-wire on the SV650...

Hi Y'all,

The weekend task is to start the process of getting my SV650 track ready. I'm using the 2007 WERA rules as a guide to what needs to be done. (I figured I would do the safety wiring of the bolts first, as none of this precludes riding the bike on the street.)

Some things, like axle pinch bolts, are pretty stright-forward. Others have me scratching my head and wondering what to do.

For example, the rules state that the axles have to be safety wired. On my CBR this was a no brainer...the front axle protruded beyond the fork sliders. On the SV650, the front axle is installed flush with the slider...any other racers out here care to make a suggestion on how it is to be drilled and wired?

I think you'd be better asking this on SV Rider, this is a mainly UK/European forum... We do have a few US members but SV Rider is mainly US, so you're much more likely to get a good answer

Hmm..not sure what my nationality has to do with drilling an axle on a Japanese motorcycle. Unless, of course, yours are somehow different. Or perhaps nobody over there races motorcycles.

Either way, I get the hint. Good bye.

I reckon it's possible you could have misunderstood me by more, if you'd taken a run up...

What I'm saying is, there's a number of WERA racers on the SV Rider board who've no doubt come across this situation and know how to deal with it- whereas the UK racing regs don't, as far as I'm aware, call for lockwiring spindles. It'd be a complete sod to drill and wire, so advice from people who've done it or avoided the issue would be a good idea, no? There's very little chance of finding someone who's done that here, but I can guarantee you will on SV Rider, soooooo...

agreed. All we have to lock wire in the UK is the sump bolt, oil filter and oil filler cap

Going to hijack this thread as it's only a little diversion and not worthy of a new thread all of it's very own

Question: Anyone know of a sharkfin chainguard thingy that will bolt onto the existing stand mount lugs on the pointy swingarm rather than having to drill fresh holes into the swingarm? Going to guess there's a requirement for this in US regs too so hopefully still relevant to the OP.
