If we took all the sponges out of the water, would the level go up??? ' Cos surely they're soaking up the water?

2 things:

1) depends if you squeeze them out first, or remove them without squeezing.

2) if you did either of the above, that would leave a vacant pineapple under the sea.

I never go near any floaters I see bobbing about in water.

We have already taken most of the fish out of the sea and the level is still rising so taking out the ships will not help.I think we should all take salt water baths to see if that has any effect. We could also make a lake in the middle of Australia and put some of it there.

Right, we need to answer this, it's important

I can't quite work the maths yet, but I think I've got all the bits and pieces to work it out.
Approximately 1,460 teratonnes of water that covers 70.8% of the earth's surface.
A kilotonne is a thousand tonnes, a megatonne is a thousand kilotonnes, a gigatonne is a thousand megatonnes and a teratonne is a thousand gigatonnes. A lot basically.
The earth's surface is 510,065,600 km2, 148,939,100 km2 is land, and 361,126,400 km2 is water.
The displacement of the QE2 fully loaded is 48,923 tonnes.

Get to it people

I can see environmentalists now campaigning for this to happen to prevent flooding around the world.
