Hey Claire, as someone who seems not very good things as part of my job we all deal with in differnt ways and effects people different as well, I still have big issues with dead bodies the last one I went too I was awake half the night trying not to think about it.

Not sure what suggest really I just push it to the back of my mind I tend forget about it as I'm busy with other stuff, every so often I do think about it, I guess find a way that works for you.

Why your friends send you that stuff who knows, may be should question how close they are to you? But I see enough first hand not wanting to see anymore after that. I know the risk I take, I would still take even if was a lot more risk involved, no one wll change my mind on what I do.

Big Apes thread is not stupid at all, its a warning to everybiker to wearing the right gear, also what could happen if you don't. End of the day its up you we all get to make choices thats whats good about living here, but what ever choice you make you must stand by it, after all it was you who decided to do that.

Well personally I don't think its very nice to show graphic images of people's accidents, where they were seriously hurt or even killed. If anything its patronising to make out that people who don't wear leathers don't realise what is going to happen to them if they come off. Anyone with one ounce of common sense will realise its not going to be pretty.
If they don't want to wear leathers that is up to them, it is their decision, and not up to us to preach what we think is right

My friends send me these pics out of ignorance..... they`re doing it in the hope that it`ll make me think twice about taking off the oxford cover, putting on my gear and taking the bike out. They don`t understand what draws you to biking in the first place, they don`t understand the pull and the excitement. I know all to well how vulnerable I am and as well as building my confidence up I want to make sure that every time I take my bike out I`m as safe as safe can be... i want my observation skills to be spot on and I want to feel confident that every time i`m going into a blind bend i`m taking the right line and reducing the risk of another accident.

Yet it doesn`t matter how many times I tell them to stop sending them they seem to carry on

Claire - I have friends that come out the same sh*t and I always say to them 'you are not immune just because you are in a car! and also people die/get seriously injured in car/bicycle/pedestrian/falling down the stairs/DIY/skiing accidents everyday!'

Hell...I nearly died of natural causes a few years back - it made me all the more determined to ride my bike! (as soon as I was allowed to!)

Really I find that an extremely odd thing to say. I remind myself of my own near fatal accident every time I walk out the front door with my bike gear on. Personally I see no reason why a good reality check once in a while is not a good thing. It reminds you of the possible consequences of being a little too brave, a little too risky, or a little too fast.

I have had many many people send me pm's as well as the messages that have been posted on that thread, thanking me for the reality check and informing me that at the least the pictures have persuaded them that they really should go get that back protector.

I wonder what your views are on the advert on the TV 'Think bike'.

Nothing odd about it. When I'm riding my bike I need to feel confident. If I am thinking about crashing then I'm thinking negatively. It's like if you look at a corner and think "I'm not going to make this" you won't, but if you think positively and look around the corner, rather than at it, you will get round it no bother.
Also it seems very disrespectful to the riders, to show pictures of their crashes/corpses

Well send them a mail stating clearly that is very upsetting that they should stop sending that sh*te to you.

I'ts bordering on bullying sending that crap to you and they should have the sense to see you dont like it, though why you refer to them as 'friends' i do not know.

Friends dont do that to each other.

Colin

PS - Post thier email addresses here ot PM me them, ill pass them onto a friend who will happily subscribe them to 100's if not 1000's of po*n and similar sites, see if they keep laughing with 1000's of spam mails a day hitting thier work/personal email addresses.

Not expressing personal opinion on this thread just yet, though I may do later and if so it will be to do with Claire's 'friends'.

But playing Devil's Advocate here purely for the sake of it, one might point out that you reminding yourself of your own accident suggests that it has, understandably, personal importance that may go beyond other's appreciation of it. Not siding with anyone here, just throwing that in the mix.

Others have expressed their opinions on the pictures of crashes etc, I won't do that. Bikes crash. Fact.

However, I'd appreciate knowing where your friends obtained these pictures from Claire. Why? Well, a pretty famous chief constable of the Police did a similar thing to your friends (only he didn't send images to his friends, it was a closed media conference).

For that, he was referred to the IPCC.

Did your friends get express permission to forward those pictures to anyone? As there's potential comeback should anyone remotely involved with the tragic accident see them anywhere (this forum or otherwise).

On the part of the viewing of said pictures, that is solely at the discresion of the viewer (subject to sufficient forewarning). Either you choose to look or you don't - Even in the case of this thread, I had to scroll down so that I could see any of the picture... which I did AFTER reading the post).
