Yup. My 3rd old was playing in the lounge with his plastic sword this morning. Scarts/Co-ax connections were the first thing I suspected.

Keep the thoughts/advice coming folks.

Hello Baph,

For my sins I manage an electrical retail store and have spoken to our service dept about you problem, His inital thoughts are that it is a panel failure and would require a new one but without seeing it he could not be sure.

When we have had a massive failure in the past like that the service dept has looked at the product and est the repair (most companys will charge for this) Then the customer has written to the manufacturer requesting assistance with the cost of repair.

Used to deal with Phillps but there out of warranty assistance is very poor.

Good luck.

See, this is why I love the .Org. Ask a specific question, and wait, you get someone with direct experience posting, usually the same day.

Thanks 650SFTT.

I'm pretty much of the opinion that if I can't repair it myself, or at least identify where the fault is (so I have an idea of cost), then I'll just buy a new TV. I've seen similar ones (in terms of size/features) for around ?400.

It'll be a PITA if I have to buy a new TV, but I'd rather do that tonight than have earache from the Mrs & kids all weekend.

I've dealt with laptop LCD's in the past, and the way I see it, if the TV can't be fixed easily, it'll be spare parts for numerous electronics projects (and it'll actually come in damn handy too...).

I'll leave you to consider the morals of this issue, and this isn't something I've done or recommend, but.....

Got accidental damage on your household insurance? Drop a cup of tea down the back/tin of paint on it/etc, quick claim later (less excess), one new tv. What I've had suggested to me in the past.

My brother has done this a couple of times with computers & the like.

Again, that would mean earache from others in the house for not being able to watch the telly. That's not an option in my house, trust me. I'm getting enough earache whilst I'm at work & it's just the Mrs & youngest at home.

Though to be fair I have replied by text "If you're that bothered have a trip into town, I've got my card, feel free to use yours."

Anyone think I should emmigrate today?

Telling a woman she can go shopping? I'd have thought she'd have loved the idea. I just hope the credit crunch doesn't bite too hard.

Different bank accounts. She likes spending my money, but not hers.
