Get the SV's OEM ECU adjusted, its cheaper and its tune-ability is within scope of the engines. Yes a PC is more fine tunable etc, but it is an overkill on an SV engine.

Don't waste your money. You need a rolling road dyno tune to set it up properly. Just go to a dyno tuner that has a Yoshi Box, they will be able to alter the fuel map of your existing ECU.

You'll need to put it on a dyno to set either of those up, you can do it yourself but it's a lot of messing around.

I read an article last year about fitting a Power Commander to an SV and setting it up on a Dyno. The Dyno company said they get a lot of business from SV owners who had tried to set them up themselves. They said they had only ever had a couple of SV's where the owners had ever got the fuelling anywhere near right. In overall BHP they said the PC only ever makes about 2-3 BHP difference on the SV. They said the biggest difference came from smaller throttle openings where they often see a 20% gain over standard which makes the bike a lot more responsive.

I know some of this may sound like the Dyno company selling their services but at least they have the equipment and experience to know when it's right and when it's not.

Personally I would rather save the £300 and not buy the Power Commander and use the money to tune the existing ECU.

Yeah that's the sensible thing to do.

But I'm not, and I like tweaking, so I'd probably find a way to bodge it myself

where is the place in kent? i bought a pc off ebay about a yr ago for a really good price and never fitted it as bike currently still standard and didn't see the point.

From what i've been learning here it's probably worth my while selling the PC and putting the money towards tuning the ECU... (once i've got the can and filter done)

I know Bob Farnham in Kent has a rolling road and is pretty wiz at setting things up. He's just off junction 2 M20 at Wrotham (next to the Oakdene cafe). I know he can reprogramme the ECU because I've asked him. There is also Dave Hammond Racing at Dover who are PC agents and will install and set up a PC on an SV, including all the dyno work for about £400. Pays your money and makes your choices I suppose.

is the first option likely to be a lot less? £400 sounds a bit dear!!

Yes a lot less, I'd guess since the PC is an output modifier you still have the same setup time involved
