If you're looking for cheap(ish) n cheerful then a DR-Z400SM is a good option - you can pick up a 2005 bike in VGC with low miles for c. £2400, and there's lots for sale/plenty of spares around.

The problem with small singles is that they don't have a lot of puff - however round town/off road that's not really a problem.

Incidentally you can stick a set of dirt wheels on the SM version for when you want to take it off-road.

Then if you get into it properly you can always sell the DRZ on and trade up

Definately recommend the DR-Z400SM. I've had a converted DR-Z400 for 5 years and it's just about the best bike I've had for getting around town/city traffic....and nothing's fallen off!!!! Be prepared to replace the chain/tyres on a regular basis as they eat them...

when i got a bike it was a sv or drz. they were massive n i saw a sv first.

a mate had a race ktm 525 n it was a animal only 4 gears n it just wheelied. he let a few people have a go n 2 of em flipped it n they had big sport bikes.

n they last well.
