I can't afford another bike, but I so want one. Something that just works.

Honda XLR 125, she paid I think £300 for it and it was taxed and tested. OK its not fast by any means, but its going to be alot cheaper to repair than your SV is if you drop it. Wont cost you much to insure either I wouldnt have thought...
surely that would be no better in the ice?

i dont see the point, if your worried about comming off due to the bad weather, in getting another bike?

you have just as much chance coming off any bike

i do see the point in getting a winter hack to abuse, so you can keep your other bike for the nicer weather though

Not in need of anything in particular. Maybe a superduke
Don't like my bike, don't want to spend on it, can't afford another

Why don't you like it. What needs spending on it?

You've answered yourself there. Another bike to allow you to drop a bit, a bit lighter for if and when you do drop it.

See mike's rideout thread, no point derailing here- just hacked off with it.

Im not buying this bike with the intention of dropping it of course, but what would you rather have to let go of because its slipping away, your blade or a DT125 or summit like that?

I've come off in an icy car park already this winter and it was down to the bike being to far down to pick back up from falling so painfully had to drop it. With a lighter bike, might have the chance of a save...
