The engine has a hole at the front of the sump, directly below the oil level glass in this picture

Stick a steel bar through this hole and use an axle stand (or a pile of bricks, or a pile of books, etc) a each end of the bar, one each side.

Yes, then you put the stands under the brackets rather than the pegs! Have to be a bit more careful.

Pegs on my bike are too far back (pointy SV), if you put the footpeg brakets on stands the back wheel would be off the floor not the front. I guess the pile of wood is holding it up. Good way to get both wheels off the ground though.

It can be done on your own. Put the bike on the sidestand and jack up the right hand side far enough to get the axle stand under the bar on the right. Let the jack down and the bike will be supported by the axle stand on the right, the rear wheel and the sidestand on the left with the bike leaning heavily to the left and the front wheel in the air. Now jack the left side of the bike up until it is upright and level again and place the other axle stand under the other end of the bar on the left. Take the jack away.

Can you tell my wife would have a strop if I interupted her from whatever she was doing, to come out to the garage and help me?

Doesn't even need a jack, just put the right side on the axle stand then push and lift the bike while sliding the stand under with your foot.
