Default First post - Difference between curvy and pointy?

This is my first post, so hi! I'm planning on buying an SV650s later in the year, probably in winter, hoping that the prices will drop a few hundred quid. I have a few questions.

I heard the terms "curvy" and "pointy" thrown around a lot, but what is the difference between the two?

I love the newer 2006+ full faired SV's, with the black bar going down it (I don't know what it's called lol). If I were to buy an unfaired SV, how much would the lower fairing cost? An unfaired bike like this:

Thanks

I could explain it all, but to be honest I can't see the point as it's already here , apart from all the information on the front page you can also search.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the org.

There are some very knowledgable peoples in here (I am not of that caliber) so I'm certain you'll get the info you need.

I like the name you've plumped for.
I'm guessing you enjoy watching Scrubs or at least listening to the theme-tune.

Have fun. Good luck. Be good.

It's simple really, curvys are fugly, pointys aren't

The 'black bar' you mentioned is part of the frame btw.

I had the same question about pointys/curvies a while ago. The way it was explained to me is that it refers to the frame. After 2003 (K3 and later) have the angular metal frame (pointy). K2 and earlier have the rounded (sort of tubular) frame - curvy. Look at the pics on Rictus' link.

No nothing to do with frame, it is aesthetics, the shape of the tank, fairings etc. The earlier designed stuff was nicely curved. whereas the later industrialised stuff is straight and boringly pointy.

Thereafter the pointy ones have fuel injection instead of carburettors. I see no advantage to this and added complication in the need for control electronics etc.

The curvy frame was better just expensive to produce compared to the industrialised cheap/nasty pointy frame.

To answer your Lower fairing question:
Pointy Lower fairings are ~£300 New (Ermax) colour coded to match, or ~£190 unpainted.

Pointy
Fuel injection = More Power , More Torque and Better emissions (due to regulations that Suzuki have to meet these days)
