medical help .... ruptured ear drum

Off to work so I will try and keep it warm, cotton wool has been thrown away

I will ensure I lie on it albeit the drainage seems to have stopped. Gosh you are an expert and I appreciate your help hun x x

Only an expert by experience - which on the whole has been filled with misery and pain when it comes to ears and hearing. Least am on the mend now. So happy days.

I won't be sniggering if i have that. Where do they take the skin graft from for ear drum if it gets repaired?

Macdonalds and chocolate don't help it any, been trying all night. My work mates have offered to fill it with thick and warm stuff.

Its still quite a rare op and only in the most extreme of perforations, mine was because i have no airflow behind ear drums so my ear drum recessed back into ear and tore as negative pressure behind it.

For my skin graph on the first operation, when i had the mastoidectomy they took it from my bum cheek......no i am not kidding. For the second, the skin was taken from behind my ear.

I am working at mo which is taking me out in all weathers. It went numb last night but hearing didn't change. My doc didn't advise me of what not to do, assume this won't cause any more damage.

I know ideally I should be off but I can't be off until i can hear. With Xmas shifts we not flush with people and I can't really be stuck inside writing.

As for my bum, they can take it from there as long as they make it smaller in doing so

There isn't much that can be done, ideally yes, you should be inside as the hot/cold/hot/cold cycle won't help it. To be honest, I am suprised you were not signed off - very suprised.

Drew, she said stay off for 4 days, that was on my rest days so in effect I should gone back today so I went in a day early. I will keep it covered when I am out with a snood then ;(

I feel for stuff u went thru, this is truly horrid.

To be honest my docs have been poo, went Fri before it ruptured asking for help as flu was so bad, they told me to take paracetamol and that I had mucas up me nose..... doh

No worries.......when you go back, as I mentioned if you are not happy ask for a refferal to ENT.
