I liked mine on the SV. I keep meaning to fit it on the sprint but I still haven't thought up a tidy route for the piping yet......

+1 for Scotty.

OK, it flings a bit on the rear wheel, but you don't see much corrosion round there either. On the front wheel and forks, I have more of a problem with the alu getting attacked by salt and road rubbish.

The only problems I've had are due to me - forgetting to refill the reservoir. Then it needs setting to prime until the stuff flows again, and probably flings a fair bit until I've got the adjustment back.

Le Scottoiler est arrive!!!!! I arranged for it to be delivered here to the office. I'm itching to go home and fit it, only problem is it's a birthday prez for next week and I'm not allowed to open the box. Plus I have to go to Court this morning and I don't think the Judge would like it if I turned up in blue overalls and DMs

If your going to fit it, dont fit it to the snowshovel ( The bit the number plate bolts onto ) as it'll more than likely crack and break due to the weight of the touring kit. Its not designed to take the weight of it.
I'm not sure whether this is an issue on the curvy or not, but on the pointy, it definately is. Scottoiler themselves now include this as an 'excluded' bike on their list of suitable applications for the touring kit.

I fitted one before the problem was known. The Mass (old poster here who I knew IRL) had the problem, spoke to scottiler and other reports of it came in. By the time this happened, mine was already fitted and there was no evidence of the cracking. I decided to chance it on the grounds that I'd get rid of the touring resevoir and replace the snow plow with a tail tidy if it broke. I kept an eye on it abd bout 7K later it had cracked.

I still have my old touring kit in the garage and am ummin and arring about fitting it to my GS (which it should be fine on). The reason for my hesitancy is the standard oiler needs topping up regularly, but it takes 30 seconds and by necessity, I keep an eye on it. The touring resevoir is another possible link in the chain to fail. The whole point of it is that you don't need to keep checking it every week, so consequently I tend to "fit and forget" and then only spot a problem after it hasn't been oiling the chain properly for a couple of thousand miles.

When you select the SV 2003+ model from the drop down list it does not display the touring kit, so as previously mentioned, can only assume that it isn't compatible with a pointy, as it is an option for the curvy, i assume they have no problems reported?

I thought the standard kit lasted in the region of 1000 miles anyway ??

Unless you are doing some serious touring .... surely this range is more than adequate ..... just do it when you check your tyre pressures, and fluid levels ..... or do they not get checked either ???!!!

Its a 2 min job ....

When the touring resevoir works the scottoiler reaches its full potential in terms of "making a chain driven bike as convenient and maintenance free as a shaftie."

I know you shouldn't be this negligent, but with a properly set up, primed and filled scottoiler, with a touring resevoir on, on a decent chain that has been adjusted correctly to begin with, on the SV you can often get away with just readjusting the chain and refilling/adjusting the oiler when you change rear tyres. Do so at your own risk, of course.

To charlieferguson: I am fairly confident it is fine on curvys if scottoilers site lists it. They would have known by now if there was any problem and there's no questioning their integrity, so they've not hushed up a problem. So you're fine!
