+1.
Have only had that problem once. If I remember correctly it makes it fairly clear that it is sending the funds via an 'eCheque' rather than the usual 'Bank Transfer' method.

So why do you think Paypal should carry the risk of funds not clearing? Their role is to arbitrate between buyer and seller to make sure your banking detials are not compromised; it's not their job to own the risk of eCheque or any other cheque for that matter not clearing.

If you register a credit card and keep the card upto date it seems to work fine for just about everyone I know.

Of course they shouldn't, but that's not what they're doing... I've got a debit card payment pending just now, I sent the payment last monday and it's debited my account, but it's still pending. The website says it takes 7-9 working days to clear! They're no more exposed than any other merchant services user, this is exactly the same as ordering something from a shop and having them wait 2 weeks before they post it.

What's really honked me off is that I usually pay from a visa, but every time you do that it comes up with a message "Why not pay from your debit card?" Just for once I did, and that's why I've still not got my item- but it never says that there'll be a delay in clearing.

I've had a lot of good from Paypal, including some fraud refunds, but this is really crap.
