i'm doing an NVQ level 2 at mo using Excel as part of it, i'm poo with it too (IF statements and filters at the moment )

No go, also tried that. The solution involves an old "Evaluate" expression that comes from Excel 4, but only works within named ranges (or VBA). So as long as I can use a named range I'm a happy bunny.
