Tried using the engine block but it is so far back that when I jacked the bike the Abba stand lifted off instead of the front wheel. Think the exhaust solution will suit my needs. I dont often need to jack up the front so this will be fine.

G - your right the bike is ridden all year round through sleet snow etc. What is the point in having a bike if you aren't going to ride it!

I've been using exactly the same method for the last 3 years with no problems and I don't use carpet either! Sometimes I use a bit of wood, it depends on the bike and where the downpipes go!

That will do for short periods of time, just don't leave it up on the jack for months over winter.
