It does take a bit of confidence as it can be a bit daunting. You also need to give consideration to braking distances and reaction times as you dont want to be grabbing a fistful of front brake on a brand new tyre.
As for the confidence thing, I got a new set of Michelin Pilot Road 2's fitted to my Hayabusa last weekend, front and back and had to ride it home in the ****ing down rain across crap back roads! Lucky the busa is a pussy cat when it comes down to it ![]() |

The first I heard about scrubbing in tyres was when I was about to leave the motorcycle garage. I had not long passed my test. Boy it unnerved me a little especially when they said how many riders had come off just outside the garage. I rode gently for a while then gave it to a friend who is totally mad and asked if he would sort them out for me. Its fantastic now.....

lol good idea with getting a mate to do it - but if the bikes going to get binned then i'd rather do it myself
![]() seriously though, will be fine - did notice a difference towards the end of the run yesterday. Weather looking all good for tomorrow so will rinse them then. will warm them up and try her around some good a/b roads around by me. cheers for the advice all |

i used brake cleaner on the fresh rubber, took all the glossy release agent off and they scrubbed in real fast.

I wondered this but decided I didn't want any chemicals near my tyre just in case. Is it ok to do so then?

Don't be a girl. Ride the thing and you'll be fine.
Solvents + rubber is usually a bad idea.

All you are trying to do is put the tyres through a heat cycle so that the release agent used to get the tyres out of the mould gets cleaned off. The problem is that you need to make the tyre do some work to generate the heat, but you need some heat to make them work...... It's just about compromise and a little sympathetic feel. I do agree that riding on brand new tyres in the rain is not nice, brave man to do it on a Hayabusa...
