Its totaly pathetic. I have had my 7x5 on my bike for near as damn it 9 years now and ridden through london, and most of the UK with it on with no hassle. It takes one donut in one county on one road to see fit that its not correct. Ok, i am breaking the law by having it, but some kind of consitency is whats needed nationwide, or the others that arent bothered are actully dealing with real crime!

Am i right in thinking that there is no 'gradient penalty' depending on how small the number plate is???

I.E. the fine is the same if it is 3x1 or 9x7

Any number plate offence is now £60, including keeping/using a vehicle with no number plate.

I didn't actual get a ticket, I got stopped 1st and just got a ticking off as I was way ahead of the others, it wasn't untill the others caught up that he stopped them and did three of them

but to be fair their plates were pretty small

Mines legal font but cosmetically trimmed

That's not illegal though is it??? I thought it wasn't the dimensions of the plate but the height and widths of the font that mattered???

It's illegal

There is also a secified distance from the edge of the plate to the edge of the letters

15mm I think?

As someone said above, I think it's the space at the edge of the plate that matters, that's why you can have a plate with three letters / three numbers smaller than one with more letters (I hope cos I just bought one from www.craigsplates.com ) and that's what they told me.
