For those that say Scottoilers make a mess, here is my bike's rear wheel after 3500 miles around Europe and in all weathers.

Not bad I would say.

Scottoiler.
One of the few products that I've never seen discounted which may say something.
My chain lasted 30k & was only changed then because it was a convenient time to do it - it still had a bit of life left which is more than some would say I have!
The carp on the back wheel is... A GOOD THING cos it proves the thing is working, but as Lp says you can easily adjust to avoid it.

I use my bike as an all year round communter and don't have a scottoiler. I use Fuchs Chain lube. I find it really good. The Wurth dry lube was too thin and needed constant reapplication, especially in winter. The only problem with the Fuchs is it does fling a little but I would prefer a well lubed chain with a little oil on my rear wheel than a dry chain. I've never had a scottoiler so can't really comment but my bike had done about 10000 now and I got it with about 2000 on it and never had to adjust my chain either.
In the summer I would say Ii clean my chain once every 2-3 weeks and relube, more often in winter probably once every week or two.

Hope that gives another perspective. Don't know how much the scottoilers are but £80 seems to stick in my head, that a lot of petrol!

out of shot to the left, at about 8 o'clock position on the sprocket. The oil goes on the sprocket then spins onto chain, rather than directly onto the chain. Works.

Just fitted one to the DRZ at the 6 o'clock position, will see how that works out, but I expect a bit more fling.

I'm contemplating a scottoiler too ....... in 2 minds at the moment ...

Doing about 150 miles a week, all year round ..... but personally I haven't got an issue with leaving some lube at work, and giving the chain a quick spray every few days in the morning ....... riding home in the evening !!

Worth getting one ?? Any problems with the above ?? Any advantages to biting the bullet and getting one ??

Reservations are £75, and its potential to go wrong ...

thanks
