So,what happens if you say "YOU HAVE MY NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER AND MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE" Do the sack you and do you become unemployable because you don't have a passport, even although you are a British Citizen and have been paying into the system for the last 10,20,30,years.
In my case would I get deported back to Scotland--------Bloody farcical and totally unenforceable

If the company gets audited by the government, it's an automatic 10 grand fine for every employee employed without passport/birth certificate proof of entitlement to work (or valid work visa etc). Thats why places are so hot on it, can't afford not to be.

Unfortunately its neccessary to prevent illegal immigrants working for unscrupulous companies who employ them. Its currently a hot polictical subject, so high on the agenda

Where on earth are people getting the idea that the Government sells personal data?! Simply not true.

ffs, I can't even get the Information Commission to agree to the release of anonymised data already held by another government department for a legitimate purpose that would save taxpayers' money.

They should do...

They're only gonna leave it on a train somewhere anyway

Might as well lessen the public debt by getting something for it...
