The main phone is at the other end of the house from the router.

try changing the wireless channel on the hub or phone as they both might be on the same one.

failing that you might have VOIP enabled and set wrong giving priority to VOIP then not re-connecting the wireless. try an cat5 cable to the hub for your PC and see if it still dumps the internet.

I don't think it's a wireless problem because the sky box kicked it off last night. And my laptop is always physically connected to the router, not on wireless. The router completely looses internet, not just wireless

My mum had this . It was the line into the house.
If it rained it was hopeless.
A soon as a call on the phone came in the BB would drop.
The gas board got the blame for the damage as they had dug up the road ,if that's true not sure, but the speed went from 1.5,to 4 meg on the new line so the old one before it was damaged was none to hot.

Had the same problem before you need to replace ALL filters as after time they start to fail inside and if you change a router or isp then different line speeds are going through the filters and old filters etc are already locked to the constant speed on the old linespeed . you are even recommended to renew filters every 18 months due to this fact also, but if your wise like i am now i just call up and upgrade and get another new free router and filters sent out

sounds to me like line noise causing this, either from your internal cabling or between the house and the BT exchange.

I had a similar issue where I wanted to optimise the throughput speed and I came across a very helpful team in BT.

They are contactable through Twitter under the id BTCare see here https://twitter.com/#!/BTCare

You may not be a Twitter user, but I would recommend getting in touch with this team to help you sort it out.

Hmm don't think it's that. The line is pretty new and like I say it was as soon as the phone was picked up. Now that I've replaced the dodgy filter it just happens now and then. But I'll see what the weather is like next time it happens

How do they get locked to a constant speed? So if I'm buying new ones do they need to be specific to my broadband?
I tried phoning up asking for a new homehub but they just kept wanting me to run tests and moving the router to the main phone point etc.

I've got twitter. Would they have to come out to the house to test?

they can do some fairly accurate tests without a visit, but depending on results they can then come to the house and measure/rectify the problem. In my case they came out and replaced my main wall connection, increasing speed from 3Mb up to 11Mb.
