Whilst doing that job you could have checked the chain for looseness, lubrication & peeped down the head with a torch to check for anything that may have been untoward.

I have recorded a video so you can see what I mean about the noise.

to me that sounds like a loose baffle/something loose in the exhaust. i don't think its anything engine related.

I was thinking it sounded a bit like the fuel tank vibrating against the frame.

mm, hard to tell. The fact it happens at specific revs could indicate something resonating, when you are next to it do you get any indication roughly where the noise might be coming from?

Another technique to try would be to hold a long screwdriver, your hand cupped around the handle and then your hand to your ear. Place the other end at various parts of the bike and you should be able to hear the noise more accurately, works a bit like a stethoscope.

it does sound directly mechanical to me, directly related to revs. If you've elliminated cam chain tensioners and valves are gapped properly, and its doing this while in neutral. Assuming the noise is indeed from the engine I would be suspecting something in the gearbox or clutch area. Its possible there is a big-end bearing about to die but I would have suspected that to give you noise throughout the rev range.

It may well not be engine at all as has been commented, impossible for us to tell without hearing it in person really.

the problem is solved and it is nothing bad, just annoying we didn't realise sooner.
a friend came round to have look fresh eyes on it, we looked for loose bolts, lost bolts etc and suggested that my engine bars where vibrating against my engine casing. Removed the engine bars and everything is perfect!
amazing what you miss when you instantly think its something bad

Thankyou very much all the help it is really appreciated and sorry for wasting your time.
