thanks red herring, that's very helpful! Do you find the 14t helped the sluggish mid range? Definitelydont mind 121mph top speed...

It transforms the bike in my view. Bearing in mind mines a naked I only get a few more mph top end with the longer gearing, it just means it's less likely to blow up by being held against the limiter for so long...... For road use, even with a fairing, you really don't need the 15t front sprocket unless you're into serious long distance motorway work and anal about fuel consumption.

Here's a link to a clip shot on board. You can see how quickly it goes through even the middle gears and right at the end, on the fast right hander, you can hear it hitting the limiter as it leans over and goes onto the side of the tyre.

ps: skip the first couple of minutes, it's just other people starting.

That video is mad. It looked like more of an Autocross!

Re gearing, definitely agree that changing the ratio makes the bike a lot more fun. Can't remember what my current ratio but the extra acceleration and mid range is much more usable than the top speed.

The only time this really becomes relevant is trackdays. The bully boys will slow you down in the corners and then **** off on the straights. Tres frustrating.

Unfortunately changing the gearing won't help you much there, as I said there really isn't much in the top speed by running it higher than 14/44. A standard faired SV generally won't hit it's limiter in top on 15/44, I think some of the Minitwin racers run that gearing on tracks like Snetterton or Silverstone (or is it 15/46 I can't remember) but you won't see a benefit on your average trackday.

The only real way to deal with the R1 brigade who are slow enough to get in your way on a trackday is to stuff them up the inside properly on the brakes and run them wide. After that they tend to stay away from you, but if you're good enough to do that safely enough not to get chucked out then you probably shouldn't be in that group anyway! Ask Rossi.......

I meant relevant as in you'll only really notice the lack of top end on a track.

Like it! Trust me even though everyone perceived my interests to be around traffic I really couldn't have cared less what the numbers said.... it was all about the numpty doing it. Nicking anyone just for speeding would have just been far to hypocritical
