Who's RON? has he got an SV?

Im very surprised to read that Optimax has fooked an engine up. If so there should be a warning on this site and a big claim to Shell

Esso Supreme 97 RON - much cheaper than Optimax or Ultimate, probably just as good.

Why is this in Idle Banter?

it didnt screw up my engine, was just a bad batch of fuel that i got, caused the engine to cut out, cough and splutter, first time it did it was after i filled up then went for a blast at 130, engine started to cough and cut out(not a confidence inspiring feeling at those speeds)

once the fuel was drained from the tank and carbs all was back to normal

Gaz,

That's contrary to the reports that I've seen:
http://subsites.bp.com/ultimate/uk/petrol/default.asp

it clearly says:

I'm very surprised to hear about your experiences of Optimax. It doesn't sound too much like a fueling problem, but perhaps more of a compression and ignition problem?

Viney: It's alright mate, don't let it get to you!

I use Tesco or Sainsbury's bog standard unleaded in the bike and diesel in the car (it wont run on anything else )

What's the problem with supermarket fuel ?
I've never heard of a problem with it. It must be refined at the same place as other brands, unless they all have their own refinery .

Its about 2p/litre cheaper than my local BP and they are doing 5p/litre off when you spend x amount in the store at the mo.
You'd be a muppet not to buy it

Bog standard stuff, from whoever I happen to be passing at the time. Usually Esso but I have no trouble or bad experiences with Tesco. If it gave me a 10-20% power boost or guarantee that my engine would last twice as long or all my money back then of course I'd have it... but of course it doesn't, so I don't...

nah mate was definetly a fuel problem, started the moment i filled the tank (was near empty) after a few miles it started, then it got continually worse, drained the tank and carbs of all fuel and replaced it with petrol from another startion and it ran fine afterwards

maybe they had just had a delivery of fuel and it stirred up all the crap in the tanks? who knows....all i know is i now have 12 litres of petrol for cleaning purposes
