Another point - the nautilus comes with a relay, the magnum does not, but can be used with a relay. I'll see how I get on without a relay... I don't use the horn that much so I can't see it draining the battery.
My Nautilus is clamped to the right fork leg. I've got a naked '99 with a perspex screen, so I used one of the screen mounts. I dnd't bother using the relay, and I've seen no degredation of the horn switch.

Because these horns use a higher amount of power to make the louder sound it's possible that using it a lot would damage the wiring - too much power too quickly, so the relay gets around that by buidling up the power from the main wiring then releasing it into the horn when there's enough (I don't know the specifics - I'm not an electronics engineer - but it's something like that) and that stops the wiring from getting fried... but as mentioned above, you can get away with it provided your wiring is half decent - or at least, decent enough to take the power surge when the horn is used.

I know that the standard horn location on my SV1000S K3 is directly between the rad and the engine, and its a common problem when the engine and rad get hot for the horn to stop working. I bet iyour horn worked fine once the bike had been left to cool down for half an hour or so.

I fitted a stebel magnum horn inside the right hand fairing (in front of the radiator cap). The steering damper clears it by 10mm. Nice and loud, and can't be seen as it is quite large comapred to the standard one.

You don't need a relay to run the stebel magnum.

Ok, makes sense.... yesterday was a very hot day and this morning the horn was back.

I was thinking on fitting a transatlantic horn in order to do that, but they don't have relays for the sv.... d***m!!!!

I've got one, fits ok, sound is deeper and louder. I think cheapest and easiest upgrade option. Mine was a direct fit, no relay needed on my curvey, about 2 months I've had it and use it for greeting a few dozy folk with great success

Connected it up to an ER5 at work this morning. It's way more impressive than the original horn but it's not as loud as I'd secretly hoped... that 136 db is at 4 inches from the horn outlet, so unless you can get the cabbie/ped/BMW driver to stick their ear that close...

The stebel website is at http://www.stebel.it/ for anyone interested in their horns... interesting to see that at 12V the horn pulls up to 6A, and although it's not mentioned on the packaging, it seems that the horn can be run at 24V as well.

For £14 including the P&P from NippyNormans (and the fact that I ordered it at lunchtime on Friday and it arrived on Saturday morning), it's well worth it, and it's totally easy to fit - pull off spade connectors, unsrew existing horn, screw on new horn and reattach connectors. It's much lighter than I thought too - about 250g.

Bah! I tried to fit the magnum this morning - where's it meant to go!? There's no way it can fit in the gap that the original horn goes, behind the radiator! Plus the connectors don't match and will need cutting or replacing... poo! I'm thinking of attaching the magnum to the caphead screw on the frame on the left hand side and leaving the old horn there and fiddling witht he connectors, but then it'll look like a dogs dinner.

Stupid Stebel!

i tried fitting it to my CBR yesterday, just uplugged the old connectors and plug them into the new horn.

but to he honest, its bigger than my old horn and is about the same volume - just sounds a tiny bit more like an air horn, still more or less the same
