I've got a tub of "Silkolene Racing Grease" that I won in a comptetion once. This is red. When I asked a mate who races once why it was red he said it was because it shows up easily, as in, if the supposedly greasy bit is not red there is a probelm with it.
I just slap the stuff liberally into bearings and on things like the spindle when refitting my wheels and so far I've had no problems.
