how do i burn dvds so they work ??!!!

Do you have an instruction manual for your DVD player - my old one said somewhere in the small print that it liked DVD-R discs, my new one isn't fussy

Can you play the discs on any other DVD player

Don't use -RW or +RW discs - or if you do, don't expect them to work if you have erased them

Can you burn to an .iso (disk image) file on your hard disk and then use a DVD player program on your PC to check that it plays, before burning it to the disk?

I can do this easily on my Mac. Not sure how easy or hard it is to do on a PC. One of the PC gurus might be able to tell you how to do it.
