Almax, Almax, Almax.

Not got one myself, but really wish I had.

Most the other stuff on the market is relative junk (including what I have).
I've got an Almax chain, damn good. Give them a ring and they'll discuss how to secure your bike, really friendly people who can give good suggestions geared to your particular bike.

My security Set-up

Have a 1.5m Oxford Chain

Almax D-Lock

Oxford alarmed Disk Lock

Day to day I just carry the Disk Lock under my seat, and use that when parked at work.

If I am going somewhere I donw know then its all 3 - the Disk Lock becoming a padlock for the chain, which goes through the rear-wheel, and usually sits on top of the can, with the D-Lock going round some anchor point - the D-Lock is the top of the range Almax, so should stand up to attack better than the chain - so I use that as the most vulnerable link in the set-up - ie accessibility.

Just ordered up an Almax chain, Squire lock and Hardie ground anchor from Almax, all the reviews I read for them are wicked, as apparently no body has ever been able to bolt crop their chain...

I mentioned to Almax, that a few people from the forum recommended I go for an Almax and they said that if anybody else from the SV forum would like to buy anything from them they will be given a £10 discount from any one of their products and will also receive a free lock bag which is usually £24.94....

On a similar vein, where do people run the chain for the lock on their bike? I know back in the day I was always told it was best to run it through the frame rather than just a wheel, but I can't seem to find enough space on the SV.

Anyone got ideas?

There's a little space on the right hand side that you can drop the chain down next the lower end of the rear shock, through the swing arm, between the pivot and the brace, then down to you ground anchor, then up round the exhaust. You can hook the chain over the peg to stop it touching hot bits.

Cheers Mogs, I'll give that a go when I get home. (I forgot my chain this morning) Luckily the bike is only 20' from where i'm sitting, and it's a slow day...

I bought a Abus CityChain cos Ride magazine rated them highly and they are smaller than most, fits under the seat of my K3 just fine with tools and disklock under there too:

(Strangely it looks really small in the photo, sure mines bigger )
When there is nothing to chain too its just the right length to go over the seat, through the pillion footpeg, round back wheel and up through other footpeg (on my low seat anyhows). Its a tight fit so will be a bit harder to break than normal.

I thought my chains were quite alright until I looked on the Almax website and saw how long it took for them to be bolt cropped:

Squire MC4 Chain (RiDE Best Buy): 63 seconds

Luma Kit Solido Duo (RiDE Recommend): 35 seconds

Abus Granite City Black X Plus (RiDE Reccomend): 8 Seconds

Abus Granite Extreme: 12 seconds

Oxford Monster: 3 seconds

Oxford Boss: 22 seconds

Kryptonite Fahgettaboutit: 42 seconds

Looks like Diamond and Almax make their chains out of the same type of steel alloy. Guess what is now on order!
