If you boys enjoyed that, here's another ... again on a 636 rear shock
![]() blue at cadders clip Oh and I have 80 racetech springs, racetech emulators and 15w oil, all professionally set up by myself!! ![]() ![]() Coz I was thinking of racing it and wanted that extra little bit ... but like I said, in 'the real world' i.e. not racing, the 636 shock is easily enough!! (as the videos kinda prove) ![]() Last edited by Blue_SV650S; 04-06-07 at 10:28 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In my opinion if you can afford a proper shock thats made for the bike..get one. Over and above better than making do and you can also get more than half of what it cost back when you sell the bike..aftermarket shocks for SV's sell for silly money on ebay so well worth doing...and I ride on road and track..both the same to me when it comes to requiring suspension that works the best it can. No point getting second best just because you ride on the road! |

There's no doubt there's some serious riding talent there, but a bit of courtesy wouldn't go amiss - it ain't a race. |

![]() OK, less sarky, why do you use an off-the-shelf Ohlins rather than a bespoke works Showa or Ohlins item? Or likewise, GSXR front over superbike-spec Ohlins gas forks, or Dymag mags instead of carbon? Same situation, everyone does a cost vs benefit decision. Blue's in a good position because he's seen both sides- used a 636 shock, upgraded, regretted it. But other people have done the same and not regretted it, or have other comparisons(I've put 636 and GSXR shocks in other people's bikes, and an Ohlins in my own), and don't agree with him. This is called Having An Opinion. For me, even though I really apprecaite the quality of a better shock- whether it be my Ohlins or my WP, or a Penske triple, or whatever- I reckon the bodges have their place. Simple maths, a 636 shock costs about £40 for the last of the KYB shocks, wee bit more for the (better) Showas, a new Ohlins or similiar costs typiaclly £400 plus. Is the aftermarket shock ten times better? Well, IMO no, not at all. It's better, there's no doubt at all, but in terms of "bang for buck" you could take that £360 and throw it at a CSS day or something and go faster, or some other useful mod. So, I call it a luxury. Quite a big one. But then, I like luxuries, just because it's not needed or because you can get 2/3 or more of the result on something 1/10 the price doesn't mean it's not worth having. And I wouldn't want to go back from my luxury item to something that's merely good enough. At the same time, I don't buy this "second best" argument- best isn't the highest spec item, best is what fits your needs best. Most people would be happy with a 636 shock, so second best would be spending 10 times more for something that won't give them a good return on that investment.
