Anyway, I think they are perfect for a weekend toy but I would not want one long term as you have to ride them carefully and with much respect. I prefer spanking the **** off a 600.
Spot on Dan, I learned to respect power when I got my Falco. The back would kick out, the front would head skywards, and out of one roundabout it did both at the same time !

For the first time since I was a boy I had to control my right wrist

Hooligan bike apparently. Had a demo at the John R Weir open day in perth 5-6 weeks ago. Everybody who tested had to leave comments in the book. I was reading the book while waiting for my turn. Everyone said more or less the same thing - absolutely horrible in town and scary as **** on the open road. I never got to ride it in the end as it was closing up time when the last ride came back.

What about Yamaha MT01? I not see many people mentioning them? 1600cc rev to maybe 5k and low down power to pull a house down? Real manly looking machine I thinking? Ignore the bhp numbers, they handle pretty good too. If you hear one with naughty exhaust,I sure you be impressed!

They do sound pretty good, but it'll never be a 2 up machine, and for all that torque, the power doesn't push it along very quickly does it. 1700cc weighs a bit too !!

Mr.Jelster the reason they not great top speed bike is due to gearing. That motor could easilly provide much more go. Not that you want to be go at high speed for long time unless you have neck of Tyson! This bike have all that any honest(?) Harley owner would want. R1 brakes, upside down horquillas and race bred chassis. Plus a push rod engine that does not leaking oil!

The MT01 is a much heavier bike than race rocket reps, but did lose many kilos for 2005,(they shed 20kilos from engine alone!)

I am like very much but when I am sit on one I am look like a pea on a barrel.

Gooner,
You mentioned 110+ miles between fills. Was this with the smaller <2001 tank or larger >2001 tank. I think I've found out that if your dash has a digital display for fuel and time you've got the bigger tank.

As for the rest of the comments about hooligan bike I can see where you're coming from. Went out with the dealer principal he was on a CB1300 so we could swap bikes at half time. What a hoot, two very tourquey bikes managed to get in lots of overtakes you'd not even contemplate on the SV. Problem is the VTR seemed to like cruising at about 120 which felt the same as about 85-90 on my SV. Lots of license losing opportunity I feel. Still far more capable of bimbling about on this than on the CBR600RR or blade propper hooligan machines.

I was totally sold on the CB1300 until I tried the VTR. I think I'm addicted to the whole Vtwin thing now. Had a go on a mates Tuono that had a far more aggressive thrust about it but was a bit too high up for me.

Need to see if I can get a ride on an SV1000 before I enter negotiations with the Honda crowd.

I would like to add though I have had more honda info on here than I got off the VTR forum.

Cheers,
Mark

An SV with a similar ability rider will thrash a Firestorm when the going gets twisty. Fact.
One of my best mates used to own a Firestorm and we went on many a rideout, occasionally swapping bikes.
The only real benefit you will get from the Honda is greater motorway, A road speed and probably better build quality. The Honda ain't alf thirsty though.

Hey Mark

Mine was the earlier model with the smaller tank. Worse I ever managed was 80 miles before the fuel light came on, giving it the berries on twisty B roads. The 110+ was high (ish) speed cruising on French auto routes.

Some of the bikes on the same trip were Tuono, GSX1400 and XJR1200. I had to stop for fuel more often but their riders were glad for the stop, the wind blast at that speed was a bit of a problem for them

If ride height is a bit of an issue, I've got a Hagon reduced ride height shock for a 'storm. Lowers the seat about 20-25 mm. Haven't a clue what it's worth so I'm open to offers if it's useful

and they do sound great with cans on

i was like this when i got the sv1000s, i know its only about 120 horses but i was riding it like my 650s and i very nearly got thrown about 3 times! all very scary moments being too over confident with the throttle. i now ride smoother giving my right hand alittle respect.
