I like you learned the hard way in the rain, just passed my test, started commuting 50 miles a day in the winter come rain and whatever else was thrown my way. I like to think it's made me a better rider- one time i started it up, pottered off, turned left and found myself on my ****, damned manhole cover..

And I realised it should be riding after I posted the thread

I did my 1st decent commute yesterday on the SV, got the bike on the 4th but for various reasons couldn't take it to work until yesterday.

West Lancs to M'chester - approx 45 miles each way all m-way. Going to work was fine, no problems, filtering got me to work 15-20mins earlier than usual. Going home, torrential rain, mega traffic problems on the m-ways but still got home 20mins quicker than if I'd been in the car.

Only real problems were - my 'waterproof' gloves are still soaking wet this morning and my 'waterproof' jacket and jeans let loads of water in

I've recently come back from watching some of the Tour De France, and it rained everyday! Not the July scorching weekend I was hoping for!

We rode the D769 from Carhaix Plouay to Morlaix on the way back to the ferry (Roscoff), and the fact the road was wet, but had stopped raining made it even more challenging and fun. I would have loved to ride it in the dry too though!

Seriously, if anyones' in Brittany they should check it out! Is there a section on here for listing great roads?
