didn't i say it would be something simple, i had the neutral/sidestand/kill switch covered but FFS you must surely have ridden the bike before

Yeh, but every other time I have ridden the bike a didn't have to pull the clutch to start it. Believe it or not I'm not a thick ****!
I think I would have followed the same starting routine as normal.

so what did you change that meant it needed it this time, and presumably, every time thereafter?

Reading between the lines here so may be wrong. Assuming a few things as well so definately wrong.

Sounds like this is not a new bike, Also sounds like this has been a big clean. It is possible the clutch switch was stuck in the compressed position and in the process of cleaning the bike it has been freed off.
This would tie in with the op never having to pull the clutch to start before and having to do it now. Probably worth having a good look at it and giving it a proper clean.

yeah, the clutch sensor was essentially stuck on, which meant it never needed the clutch to start. A good clean seems to have free'd it up!

However, if you had consulted your manual, it would have said to pull the clutch!

At least it was cheaply sorted eh?

Sounds entirely feasable to me, and makes me look less of a biff!

Ha ha.
