Well mine has done something like 50k without a problem, other people who have had problems have had them swapped, they seem a company that actually values their reputation.
I figure it's saved me at least 2 chains worth plus a lot of time in not having to adjust my chain (now I adjust every time I change the rear tyre). Even religiously lubing the chain won't be as good as a scotoiler. Just look at how clean the chain looks (especially in comparison to the rest of the bike)! Only issue you may find is a few drops of oil under the bike but even that depends on use, weather and all sorts, the VFR gets a nice bit of smoke as the lube collects in the sprocket cover then drips onto the rear left downpipe! ![]() Druid

It will pay for itself in reduced chain maintenance i.e manual lubing and also you'll get more life out of a chain and sprocket set so you'll need to replace it less often.
They dont, its a very very simple bit of kit. If you do have a problem the scottoiler after sales / warranty service is excellent. |

If I'd fitted a scottoiler I'd have saved money as I'd probably still be on the original chain.

For comparison... My GSXR has done 20K, its still on its orginal chain. I've had the bike from new and I had the Scotoiller fitted to it when I bought it....

Just in case.
Lube wise I use Putoline DX11 but that's cos I think it's the mutt's nuts! Does it's job great and you can see clearly when the chain is starting to do dry. Also after a few applications you can clearly see where it's picked of grime and it's time to degrease the chain and start again. But saying that get a scottoiler cos there ace. Left mine attached to the SV when I part exed it D'oh! Last edited by vardypeeps; 11-09-09 at 11:14 AM. |

(picture taken about 6 months later after the chain had been sat outside btw). This btw is one thing you *have* to be careful of, because chains last so much longer with a scotoiler you *have* to regularly check them (you should anyway) for problems like this, with a normal lube you get to look at the chain once a week, with a scotoiler you could just leave it for months. Good advice there Druid. Although a regular pre-flight check regime should be done, it is easy to overlook it if you are a commuter. Because I'm a leisure rider (albeit about 10K a year) I clean my bike regular and chains / brakes / lights and so forth checked then, plus pre-flight oil / chain / pressures.
The Scottoiler is no substitute for regular checks / maintenance. |

Scottoilers rule, triple your chain life and dont have to adjust your chain half as much.
Only fling oil about if its not set up right, ie flow set too high. Would not be without one! ![]() |

I've had a scottoiler on both my SV's. Did 18k on the first bike before I had to change the sprockets (chain was fine but I replaced the whole lot)
Now on 22K on current SV. Checked the gearbox sprocket 3k ago and it was showing some wear, so I can see chain and sprockets getting replaced during the winter re-build. By the way the gearbox sprocket gets a lot more wear than the rear and it's not so conventient to check. John
