society civilised... best laugh i have had all day. nothing has changed apart from the surroundings as the people are still the same. there is still armies, war, religion, poverty and everything else that there was back then.

We aren't, no.
For the most part in many ways they are. We're products of our society and upbringing, theirs is different enough that they could be considered to be living in the past from a western perspective. That said, it didn't look much different to the London riots when the news first came on. |

If you think our society hasn't evolved from back then we are in trouble.
We're more accountable, more intelligent, more populated, we are better off (on the whole) and to top it off there are tons of new laws which were supposed to abide by. Facts are, radical religions have no part in modern society, over reacting to such minor things is plain stupid and does more than harm than good to world peace. |

If youre talking to me specialone I think OUR society has.
I think theirs hasn't compared to ours back then but may have compared to theirs back then. I also don't think we're more intelligent although we may be more knowledgable and/or better at plying intelligence. Plus the climate is better for it to be appreciated. |

yes society may have been modernised but does that modernization make it civilised?
yes radical religion or in fact any religion should have no part in a civilised society and the same goes for laws, armies, governments and all the other things that control people as if society really was civilised we would not need them. so modern, yes but i'm afraid human beings have a very very long way to go before we are civilised. |

I'm not too keen on many of the things that have been said here. Too many sweeping statements about Muslims and their collective behaviour as a religious group, there is something like 1.5 billion Muslims across the globe and you are judging every one of them based on the actions of a comparative few. Yes, I fully agree that the acts of violence and murders are completely reprehensible however I hate to see such things said about a religion whose followers are, by and large, quite peaceful. Might I point you to events not so long ago in Northern Ireland if you want an example of how Islam is not the only religion which has a minority of followers that show violent tenancies in the modern age.

Ah, ok.
Just to make it clear I'm not talking about all Muslims, I'm talking about the people of whatever religion that coincidentally happen to be predominantly Muslim living in north Africa and the middle east. |

Dave, if you look on my first post, I said that's the trouble with radical behaviour by a group or religion, it tars everyone with the same brush.
But let's be clear here mate, this isn't just a few hundred protesting, this runs into many thousands, still a drop in the ocean compared to 1.5 billion but it's enough to influence people's perception of them. The only people that can change outsiders perception of Islam is Muslims themselves, they need to distance themselves and eradicate the radicals. Remember panoramas under cover program? Uk mosques teaching anti west by their elders etc, like i said it isn't just a small few. Last edited by Specialone; 14-09-12 at 06:40 PM. |

Spank you make a good point about the riots, i imagine had they all been armed it would be a very different story!
Although their reasons for rioting (supposedly) came down to someone being shot whereas this weeks troubles were for a cartoon. Ravingdavis as Phil has said im not trying to label them all the same, just the ones out killing people. Last edited by tactcom7; 14-09-12 at 06:44 PM. |
