I had a male house mate a little while ago... He was a pain, emotionally stunted, lazy and boring. I had a load of fun with his girlfriend (not like that you filthy minded lot!) and generally led her astray!
There are a lot of cons with male housemates and finding a short curly hair on your toothbrush is just one of them! However, there are certain activities that women like myself can do that leave male housemates begging for information. Also it was funny when I came home with more women than he did. One night I had two female friends who made out in the living room, totally oblivious to who was there. He sat for the night with a cushion in his lap and barely spoke! Gay housemates are the best, I would highly recommend it. Mind you I shared a house with a load of Polish builders a while back and they were kind, considerate, great fun and party animals. That was the best time I had in shared housing. Sadly it was ruined when a horrible English bloke moved in and spoiled it. So to conclude, English blokes are sullen, emotionally stunted, childish, sexually repressed, lazy, bad cooks and boring. Share with a nice lesbian or a load of Polish builders for good times. ![]() |

I've shared with both, some good and bad points either way but in all honesty I think it's been down to the people rather than their gender.
It's true most women like to live in a tidy house with pointless cushions on the sofa and candles that never get lit, but I've met a surprising number that seem to have no interest in actually cleaning, just expect it to kind of happen. This can be a point of friction. I've also lived with males that were grumpy and emotional, and ones that were cleaner and more organised than me. Bit of a lottery either way I'd say your best bet is just to be frank about the qualities you expect "Must be OK with some mess / no mess, must must be organised / must be calm" pick the things that you need in a house mate, and see what matches you get back. Of course it'd be great to have them be a friend as well but I'd rather have someone living their own life that left the house in the state I wanted it, paid the bills on time and didn't constantly treat the place as their own to do what they wanted with regardless. And this, dear readers, is why I choose to be Maltese, even though I have an English name and accent.
