Embarassing moments with the bike

Haha Hong this thread made me smile. You must have the same problem as me in that you're a little too short in the leg from the SV, I've dropped it in every situation you've listed (except the junction one) and more.

One of the best ones was late at night in the pitch black on a country lane when my bike had it's worn sidestand that meant it leant over a fair old way, I'd dropped the bike on parking it up on a sloped gravelly track (the big chunky stuff)... then on leaving I had to bounce it up off the stand to get enough weight behind it then bounced a bit too much and it went over the other side and into the ditch alongside! So then I was on my own (the folks I was out with had already gone before I'd got all my gear back on) in the pitch black...thought about flagging a car down but thought that might not work out well either so just set about picking it up out the ditch, not sure how I did it but I did. Adrenaline works wonders. I've picked it up countless times since, much to the amusement of anyone watching and much to my amusement of seeing their reactions to my achieving it.

One time I left the choke on accidentally when leaving a down sloping gravelly track and wondering why there was no engine breaking, then realising I was picking up speed and a stone wall was at the bottom, brake and down, whoops!

Hahaha Yep, midgets curse! Although since those times iv gained 2 and a half stone and its become noticeably easier to muscle the bike about! Shame my barely used bespoke nitron shock was weighted for my old weight...

So do I. It's a 1" long piece of PVC tubing. If the disk lock is on, the tube is on my ignition key to stop me riding off. Otherwise it's on the disk lock key.

My V-Strom was 2 days old when I got to a very boring junction in our village, stopped to turn right and very gently dropped the bike to the right, needed help to get it up again as I was blocking the road. My only excuse was it was a lot heavier than the ancient Monster I had before, but still mortified., luckily it was so slow to only damage was to the brake lever so I was able to ride away.

Been fairly lucky all told, but in the spirit of sharing

Forgot the sidestand was still down and caught it on the slightly raised floor going in to the garage. Slow motion tip over. Only the 125 though, so easy to pick up.

Miss judged an uneven bit of car park at work and gently tipped over when my foot slipped.

And again, two weeks later (that WAS embarrassing)

Oh, and crashed into the compound fence on my first go at Mod1

It was a hot sunny Saturday in the late 1970's and I was riding a 1975 Honda CB-750 four.
Baseball and softball were still very popular in rural America.

The womens' teams from all of the county were having their end of the year softball tournament.
Every female from 16 to 22, literally every woman I would have a chance to date for the next few years were there, all hanging around in one large group away from the other women and the on going ball game, near the car park.

The little ball park was all spruced up, with a fresh mowing, stripes painted on the field, banners, food venders.
Even the drive and carpark had a fresh layer of gravel.
Perhaps a bit too spruced up.

Unbeknownst to me as I rode up heading towards the group of young women near the rear corner of the car park was that in their effort to make the car park look nice, someone decided to use gravel to level it up.
Meaning in some places the gravel were over a foot deep!

Needless to say apparently the deepest spot was right in front of this group of young women and I ride up, only to totally wipe out in the loose gravel, with 200 or more young women watching. (and subsequently laughing)

Wasn't a total loss, though.
I ended up giving several young lasses a ride and even left with one of them.
(I haven't always been old and ugly)

Still, even so, it was the most embarassing moment ever on a bike and a lot of girls I dated afterwards mentioned remembering it.


EDIT: My wife says it was a group of only about 100 young women. She was there too! FFS!

Speak of the devil, yesterday I was putting my new Fazer 1000 (which is a fair bit heavier than an SV) in the shed when my leather trousers fell down (sexily, I'd undone them to let the belly out).

Problem was I was halfway up the pretty steep ramp at the time and was suddenly restricted to awkward, short shuffling steps with my trousers round my ankles. The bike almost fell away from me at one point so I had to use my head as a lever to push it away from the opposite wall - had to go in work today with an imprint of a brick on my forehead.

Once inside the shed, I had the problem of putting the stand down without being able to lift or separate my feet - the trouser issue was compounded by restricted movement from a recent crash.

In the end, the Mrs found my breathing heavily and sweating profusely with the bike on top of me and my trousers round my ankles.

Loved the gravel story btw - there's a similarly good tale on here from a chap who rode off a pier and into the sea while avoiding a bus on a costal road.
