I passed my driving test 39 years ago, but started driving at a very early age (not on the road until I was a naughty teenager). My kids laugh when I lean in corners and drop my head trying to go faster.

I had six lessons prior to the test and a large scotch for my nerves. but I already owned a car on L plates so had plenty of road practice, the lessons were to correct my existing faults.

Fun was getting a producer on my way to Oulton Park for easter Monday racing. Passenger also got one as on L's He threw his. I produced licence/insurance and a 3 day old MOT. Which was correctly suspicious to the desk sargent, but explained that as I was a learner, it wasn't being used much so had to get it done for the Oulton trip (as if). Passenger got a summons for not producing his licence.

Hee Hee.

some funny comments here, I to was a naughty youth I had 4 lessons and passed my car test the only problem I have is I drive an artic which is an auto a car which is normal manual and then the bike. I jump on the bike no bother change gear fine but after a night in the truck if iv used the car for work ill either stall it coming to a stop or the thing screams change gear I'm dying here or when we go out and I bay park 9 times out of 10 I will get ready for the reverse and end up looking a twit as ill turn the wrong way to reverse as its opposite to a car.

think I spend to much time in my truck and should get out more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think any good instructor will tell you after your 1st lesson whats needed lesson wise. some people learn fast others slower just go with the flow,

I almost crashed a brand new Ford Ranger into a tree on an off road test drive. I normally drive an automatic, but I'm fine with manuals - except when in low range 4x4, muddy water up to the bonnet and a tree getting suddenly larger, when I forgot to press the clutch.

I had the brake pedal practically through the floorboards but it's got so much torque it doesn't stall - just keeps going. Fortunately the instructor tapped it into neutral before I could mow this inconvenient tree down.

It may help to mention I too have been a naughty teenager, so I can technically drive a car, just not to test standard.

Cant wait to get started !
