If I remember correctly the "S" model has a sensor on the front wheel, and the unfaired model is fed from the gearbox!

I've been in contact with Suzuki Ireland, they said it was caused most definitely by the sensor in the front wheel breaking, its made of brittle plastic, I'm gettin the part today, hopefully fit it this evening, I'll update tomorrow to let you know if it works

I've just experienced the same problem with the speedo on my K3. It would read anywhere from 0 to 186 mph at any speed. The bike is just out of warranty and Suzuki would not attempt to fix it under their 'goodwill' scheme. So that'll be up to me to fix it then!
I've found three causes of speedometer problems on the SV: The wiring harness behind the headstock. Find the electrical connector for the speed pick-up. The harness is too short and gets stained with the action of turning the 'bars. I've grafted new wires into the harness and made them longer to ease the strain. The main earth connector under the rear of the fuel tank can corrode. The electrical 'noise' this causes will effect the speedometer (this was the cause of the problem on my SV). The speedo drive in the front wheel can break up. This happened to my bike without the front wheel ever being removed. The most expensive fix above is the new speedo drive collar (approx £14) Hope this helps someone! |
